Summa' Mumma'

Picture
Here we are in the summer season.  As a mom of three I try to figure out what to do for a schedule for all of us.  Of course we have days when there are no plans, then there are camp weeks and finally days when I have to be the "teacher-mom" and plan the entire day hour by hour.

It's exhausting just thinking about it. However, I wouldn't change it for the world.

I enjoy the weeks of camp when I can plan time with friends and do small house projects.  I look forward to the days when we just lounge in the pool all day and eat burgers and dogs cooked on the grill.  I even get a jolt when everything aligns and I can make full days schedules (even if there are tears involved).  But, what about me?  what about my self care?

Here are some things I tend to do for myself more during the summer months

Better exercise routine
The sun comes up a lot earlier and I can enjoy the warmth of these mornings.  I tend to get up with the sun and do a more well rounded schedule for workouts.  Running, walking, hiking, yoga, strength training...

Dinner dates
What mom doesn't love a night of not cooking?  Going out with the family, my husband, or friends at a great restaurant.  Some outside dining by the water or drinks by the fire.  These nights provide much needed laughter.

Nature time
Being outside really makes me feel rejuvenated and connected.  Whether it's at the beach, a hike or just in the backyard, spending time in the fresh air and sun always brings me joy.

What makes you happy
Ultimately, whatever you do for yourself, do what makes you happy.  If these suggestions make your skin crawl, then that is NOT your self care.  Find what works best for you.  Make sure you find something that recharges you!

This is also YOUR Summa' Mumma'!  Find some ways to enjoy it.

My Name is Theresa and I am a band director and a mom of three.  I began my journey over three years ago with journaling and mediation.  As I began, I started to notice my children taking interest in what I was doing.  Not only was I noticing their interest, I also noticed that when we talked about mindfulness and living with intention their personal growth was stronger and more intentional.  I want them to be aware of their emotions and strengths more than I was as a child. While they are still young children I want them to know the tools that will aide in their journey so they do not need to heal when they are adults.
